hey bro, i...

WISH YOU ALL THE BEST!

I'm having a great time on my skates, trying to adapt to the boot. Blisters here and there, but as soon as I worked on my form and technique, it all went away.

The race is in 3 more days! GO FOR IT!

Yes, I know the owner personally. I just wish he ran his business better so I don't get upset skaters in my shop. His answer for that is, "Then you have a new customer".

I alerted Glenn Ramsey with Southeastern to your issue and he will be happy to hear things ended up well.

i don't think anyone was really "the bad guy". i purchased them from Low Priced Skates, but they were shipped directly from Southeastern Skate Supply. the folks at Low Priced Skates were friendly and helpful, and the folks at Southeastern Skate fixed them and sent back - after the phone call i mentioned above. other than my money for shipping, and the extra time before i could finally use the skates, i wasn't really out anything.

i've had a couple other issued with the boots - though i do have almost 1000 miles on them now. glenn koshi is giving me a discount on a pair of custom apache boots i'm ordering, so overall i think i'll be a very satisfied customer!

i have heard good things about lowpriceskates.com on some of the forums, btw, so i don't think they're all bad. they're run out of a rink just north of dallas, where i live.

I've never had anything but good experiences with Southeastern Skate Supply. They are one of our major suppliers for our pro shop.

I have had trouble however with Low Price Skates - customers bringing in used equipment they bought as new, bent and rusted bearings in 'new' skates, and have listened to litany's of complaints about the company.

I wonder if you didn't get the run around from Low Price and it wasn't actually Southeastern that was the problem.

They are a great family business and have 2 offices. I doubt they'd send out a boot like that and then make a reply like that.

If your issue wasn't resolved to your satisfaction, you can call Southeastern directly and speak to Glenn Ramsey the owner.

Your blog makes them look like the bad guys and I doubt it's them.

yes. most people that get Vaypors get custom ones. By the time you're spending that much money it just makes sense.

i enjoyed reading about your anticipating, and then recieving you skates on skatelog.com. i know i'm having a great time on mine!

about the 42 miles (or, 62K) - on august 23 there're a race called the "<a href="http://www.hh100.org" rel="nofollow">hotter n hell 100</a>". it's 100 miles (160 K), and it's usually around 100 degrees fahrenheit (37C). it's a bicycle race, but a skater completed it successfully last year. i'm signed up for it, so i'm trying to get my distance up. i'll let you know how it goes!

hey fierybones! thanks for replying to my thread on Skatelog! didn't know you were there as well! my nick is sukianto there =D

i went back to the shop to heat mold the boot. turned out that i have a low-arch problem with my feet. Insoles and some heat molding later, the boots felt like second skin! I'm thrilled. Thanks for the advice, I'll tighten my laces because I havent been doing them properly.

42 miles in Jets! WOW! is it also possible to get a custom Vaypor?

ya, you should NOT have anything like that much room anywhere in your boot. your boot can't force you to keep your ankles straight (takes practice and initially some concentration), but it should be snug enough to encourage you to keep them from pronating (letting your ankles turn out - usually as you finish the push) or supinating (the opposite). either one will hurt you, both in ability to go fast and in foot problems from the skate.

if the bone in your arch hurts you're probably lacing them too tight. there's no magic there - you just have to learn from experience how tight is "enough" and how much is "too much". but it's probably another sign that the skates are too big and you're compensating by cranking down on the laces.

i hope the shop can help you out! i put 42 miles on my jets yesterday, btw! i'm still going for the custom apache boots, but i'm going to get my money's worth out of these. by the time the new boots are in i should have well over 1000 miles on them!

hey fiery! Skating is a lot of fun. Seeing the amount of commitment (16 years!) put into skating is really impressive and motivational to beginners like me. Transition from 78mm to 100mm was a huge leap, but when I experienced the speed on the first day, it thrilled me so much that I never want to go back to rec skates again.

I've been skating for 3 days straight now, few hours at a time. My boot hasn't been heat molded at all because the salesperson said it was not necessary unless I'm having problems.

I'm facing a few problems right now :
1) I am still able to comfortably insert two fingers into my boot when I wear my boot in the tightest possible way, with socks on.
2) The bone around my arch hurts! It's pretty red now.

I HAVE to go back to the shop for heat molding, because I'm afraid to DIY =(

Yea I've heard of Glen, and I think your customs are going to be so awesome. Hopefully we'll meet a marathon somewhere. You'll be all cleaned up and dry, about to go home, and I'll come wobbling through the finish line! Haha!

all the best to you on your skating chris! i started skating around 16 years ago (man, that sounds like a long time). i work in an office environment and i needed to do something for exercise - and skating looked like a lot of fun. i'm still enjoying it.

really, adjusting to a new pair of skates shouldn't be as hard as i made it. i'm working with Glen Koshi, the Bont rep in the US, to get a pair of custom-made boots to accomodate my funky feet. plus i skate a lot of miles several times a week, which doesn't give my feet much chance to recover in any hot-spot areas in the boot.

here's to lots of years of fun in your future. maybe we'll meet at a skate trail or marathon somewhere.
