It was a busy day today. Up at 6. Got songs ready for church. Went and led worship. Left the service early and up to Addison for our monthly Nickel family get-together. Hung out talking forever (I love my family). Then over to McCormick & Schmidt to hang out with some friends. Then to Marble Slab for ice cream with some of the same bunch. Once again sat around talking for a long time.
And then I hit Katy Trail.
It turned out I wasn’t he only thing that hit the trail. Last week (Friday?) we had heavy winds, lots of rain, and some tornados. Even after the weekend traffic there was lots of debris on the trail, mostly branches and dirt. It did make the evening challenging! I skate slower at night anyway because I need to concentrate to see things on the trial. With all the junk this was even worse.
And, ok I hate to complain, but I’m going to do it just this once. I’m about sick of the Dedo’s Place construction. The end of the trail has been closed off for almost two months of the busiest part of the year. It seems like the “net net” of it is that there will be a ramp going down to the end of McKinney Ave., plus some planters and a water fountain. I’ll never complain about an additional water fountain but I really don’t give a rip about the fru-fru stuff. A plain old ramp would have been fine with me. But I completely fail to see the reasoning behind closing the trail for more than the first couple weeks. They could close it while they’re actually doing work – I wouldn’t object to that – but it’s getting just plain annoying skating around the barriers.
And now back to our regularly scheduled programming.
Though I wasn’t setting any speed records, I went ahead and did my 4 laps / 28 miles and felt good doing it! It was around two a.m. when I got done, and a Highland Park policeman turned around to follow me as I drove away, but it was all worth it!
I’m planning to skate with the the Pegasus folks Tuesday night, and Steven Novak said he’d come too. He posted pics of his new diy camera stabilizer, so he may be planning to video the whole thing – could be fun.
