So 9:30ish this evening (I’m guessing, I didn’t look at the time), I’m putting on my skates at the AA Arena end of Katy trail.  There is an ABC camera truck there to get footage for a story about Texas’ “buffer zone” law mandating a 3 foot buffer zone for bikers and skaters.  And along come 15 or so skaters, moving relatively quickly.

“I gotta get me some of that”, I thought, and laced my second skate up to chase them down.  It turned out to be an easy chase; they were stopped at a water fountain waiting for stragglers to catch up.  They were the Pegasus Flyers Tuesday night group, along with a couple of the Texas Flyers guys (who lived up to their name and flew right past me).  I skated with them down to Knox street on the trail and then up (Cole?) to the Albertsons parking lot where they start and end their skate.  They said it’s about 11 miles and they start at 8.  All seemed like a bunch of nice folks and I think I’ll try to do the whole skate with them next week.

I didn’t skate at all last weekend, btw.  I was at a Mike Barber Ministries event at Hilltop women’s prison in Gatesville Thursday/Friday/Saturday, and my niece Valerie graduated after church on Sunday.

My weight was 171.4 after my skate tonight (probably a bit dehydrated).  That means when I lose another 3 and a half pounds I’ll officially not be overweight on the BMI chart for the first time in my adult life!  I’m slightly excited.

My goal for the summer is 165 lbs / 75 kg, but I can still reach down and grab more than 6 lbs of flab I’d like to go away, so maybe I won’t be content until 160 or so.  Still, I’m moving the right direction and getting closer and closer!  Once I get to my target I’m going to be ruthless with my diet and exercise so I can stabilize at that weight.  I don’t pretend to understand how that works, but it seems like we all live with a weight equilibrium of what our bodies “expect” us to be.  I want to convince my body that the new me is about 160 lbs!

247 miles / 397.5 km YTD
171.4 lbs / 77.75 kg

The founder of Pegasus Flyers is Gordon Sanders. Tell him I said “hello.”

Will do. Is this “KT” who does the “Friends of Katy Trail” Q&A?
