winter weather isn’t too predictable in texas and today, new years, we had a beautiful 65 degree day. there was a little breeze just before sunset, but most of the afternoon was calm, sunny, and beautiful.
i should’ve gone out about 1:00, but i procrastinated until 3:00, then got to the american airlines lot where i usually park and there was some sort of event going on.
so i started late – after 4:00 once i worked out parking – and only got in 21 miles, but it was still a great way to start off the year! saturday is predicted to be even warmer (ok, so is tomorrow, but i have to work). i saw steven novak one time, but we going opposite directions about the mid-point of the trail and i didn’t see him again. probably he went down turtle creek blvd. instead of back up katy trail. i was NOT skating very fast (i didn’t even bring a watch) so i’d have had a time keeping up with him anyway.
i ripped a tiny chunk of skin, callus really, off my right ankle but that was my only injury. skating without lacing the top eyelet is totally working for the place in front of my ankle that was getting hurt last fall. no pain there at all today. i went ahead and bent the tongues forward too. this seemed to help with the ankle but had the negative side effect of making the skates looser around the ankle. gotta order those new skates. i wonder if bont will cut them lower for me if i ask?
