ah… skating in texas. i waited until evening and it was still 92 or 93 fahrenheit. Add in a 15 m.p.h. SSE wind and 50% humidity and what do you have? texas, in the early summer. temperatures will be 10 degrees hotter in a few weeks, so it’s time to enjoy the fact it’s not cold.
i was intentionally taking a very slow pace (about an hour for the 12 miles), and still i had that queasy near-heat-stroke feeling on the third lap. i felt dizzy, like i could throw up, and like i stopped sweating – all classic symptoms. i slowed way down and let the breeze cool me. when i got my skates off i hurried off to sonic for a strawberry-banana smoothie! probably i wasn’t hydrated nearly enough for a summertime skate.
about the feet; they hung in there pretty well. the places on the inside of both heels, where the blister and abrasions are, were sore, but not the burning sore of last tuesday. the right one has healed over with new skin. it got a little raised bump today, but isn’t especially sensitive. the left one still has an open place oozing some liquid, but i think it’s on the way to healing up too. i’m washing out my ezeefit ankle booties after every skate to avoid infecting the open area.
i’m planning to heat-mold the outside ankles of both boots this evening. i’m still getting too much rubbing on the back side of my ankle bone.
